Pre-Treatment Protocols
To ensure the best possible outcome and minimize any complications or side effects, here’s what to keep in mind before your dermal filler treatment:
-
Refrain from taking aspirin, ibuprofen, or any blood-thinning medications for at least 24–48 hours before treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.
-
Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment, as it can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
-
Refrain from heavy exercise or strenuous activity 24 hours prior to your appointment to help minimize swelling.
-
Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds or self-tanning products for 24–48 hours before your procedure to reduce the risk of skin irritation.
-
Discontinue using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or other exfoliating products for at least 3–5 days before treatment to reduce skin sensitivity.
-
Avoid getting facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments within 24–48 hours of your filler appointment.
-
Inform your injector about any allergies, medications (including blood thinners), or conditions like cold sores or autoimmune diseases. This is especially important if you have sensitive skin or are taking any medications that affect the skin or healing process.
-
Try not to consume excessive salty foods, as they can increase fluid retention and lead to more swelling post-treatment.
Post Treatment Protocol
Maximise your investment by following these post treatment protocols:
-
Do not massage or apply pressure to the treated area for at least 24 hours.
-
Avoid intense exercise and alcohol for 24-48 hours to minimize swelling and bruising.
-
Drink plenty of water to support healing and hydration.
-
Avoid hot baths, saunas, or ice packs directly on the treated area.
-
Monitor for any unusual symptoms like persistent swelling or pain and contact your provider if needed.
Additional Information
The procedure involves minimal downtime, with results visible immediately. Mild swelling or bruising may occur but typically subsides within a few days. Most dermal fillers contain lidocaine to minimise/eliminate discomfort.
