What you Need to Know About our Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a popular skin rejuvenation treatment designed to improve the texture and appearance of the skin. This non-invasive cosmetic procedure involves applying a chemical solution to the skin, which causes the outer layers to exfoliate and eventually peel off. As a result, fresh, smoother, and healthier skin is revealed, offering a more youthful and radiant complexion.

What It Treats

Chemical Peel treatments address:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne and acne scars

  • Uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation

  • Sun damage

  • Melasma (dark patches)

  • Enlarged pores

  • Rough skin texture

Number of Treatments Required

The number of treatments needed depends on the type and strength of the peel, as well as the individual's skin condition and goals. Superficial or light peels may require multiple sessions spaced a few weeks apart, while medium and deep peels may provide more significant results in fewer treatments. Generally, patients may need 3 to 6 treatments for optimal results.

Contra-indications

Chemical peels may not be suitable for:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • Individuals with active skin infections or open wounds

  • People with a history of keloids or abnormal scarring

  • Those using retinoid or acne medications (consultation required)

Benefits

Chemical peels have the following benefits:

  • Promotes collagen production for smoother, firmer skin.

  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin texture.

  • Helps control acne and diminish acne scars.

  • Lightens dark spots, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.

  • Restores a fresh, glowing complexion with minimal recovery time.

Pre-Treatment Protocols

To ensure the best results and minimize the risk of irritation or complications, follow these guidelines before your chemical peel treatment:

  • Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning (including self-tanners) for at least 1–2 weeks before treatment. Always wear SPF 30+ if going outside.

  • Stop using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, Vitamin C, and other exfoliants at least 5–7 days prior.

  • Avoid acne medications like Accutane (for at least 6 months) and consult your provider about any medications that may affect your skin.

  • No waxing, threading, sugaring, laser hair removal, or depilatory creams on the treatment area for at least 1 week before the peel.

  • Keep your skin moisturized and drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment.

  • Avoid facials, microneedling, dermaplaning, or laser treatments at least 1–2 weeks before your peel.

  • Inform your provider of any history of cold sores, skin conditions, allergies, or recent cosmetic procedures to avoid complications.

Post Care Protocols

Protect your skinvestment by following these protocols:

  • Use a nourishing moisturizer to keep skin hydrated and aid in healing.

  • Protect your skin from UV damage by applying sunscreen every day.

  • Cleanse with mild, non-irritating products to protect your skin after treatment.

  • Limit direct sun exposure and wear protective clothing to avoid skin damage.

  • Be patient and avoid harsh products or treatments to let your skin recover properly.

Additional Information

The recovery time varies based on the type of peel. Superficial peels usually require little to no downtime, while deeper peels may involve several days to weeks of peeling and redness. Sun protection is crucial after a chemical peel to protect the new skin and prevent hyperpigmentation. Results from chemical peels can take days to weeks to fully appear, with long-term improvements in texture and tone as the skin heals.
